The Little Details – Eremitage

November 9, 2017 By Meghan Leave a Comment

“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.” – Calvin, from the Calvin and Hobbes comics

A couple weekends ago we wanted to do a little day trip, so we drove to Bayreuth to see the Hermitage Old Place, Hermitage Court Garden (an 18th Century Garden), and Altes Schloss. Sundays it’s hard to find things to do around here and, when I googled it, it said they were open. Well, we got there and saw a sign saying from 16OCT-31MAR it’s closed. Oops! (Have y’all noticed a theme in Meghan missing details?!)

Lucky for us, the garden was open (where the walking paths are) and it’s fall. So the leaves were beautiful and this place has buildings that are fun to look at!

When you get close to Hermitage Old Place you realize that it is covered in painted rocks. How neat! I love finding quirky details like these when we go places. This definitely makes it one of the more unique places we have been.  On the other side of the building there is a large fountain (not turned on this time of year) and I know come spring with the flowers blooming it will be a great place to see! I’m trying not to wish away days here, but I’m excited to go back.

The Old Palace was built in 1715. Between 1743-1745 different unique buildings and features to the garden were added. If you look at the website, you’ll see the details inside these buildings and why I wanted to go inside.
The garden is unique because it doesn’t have a main hub, like most from its day. Instead, it has numerous parts that are independent from one another. In one part of the garden the scrubs form a tunnel, I’m sure it will be a sight to see once things start to perk up and look green again! I think if we had went the weekend or two before we did we would have seen more of the fall colors in the garden. The week before we went there were strong winds, so I’m sure most of the leaves were blown off the trees and plants then.  Hopefully in the spring I will be sharing another post about this magnificent garden and it’s buildings.
If you’re interested in more information, here are the links to the two sites. If it’s in Deutsch, look for the EN button at the top of the page to translate into English

There’s something so comforting about a slice of chocolate pudding pie—rich, creamy, and full of nostalgic flavors. But most store-bought pudding mixes are packed with processed sugars, artificial thickeners, and questionable ingredients. Making it from scratch with simple ingredients is not only an easy recipe but so much more rewarding! This easy, gluten-free chocolate pudding…
