Let everything you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
Where is this year going!? I’m so excited for my the girls’s gift this year! We are trying to switch to a more sustainable, minimalist lifestyle, so our children do not have overflowing gifts in their baskets. In fact, most of the time we have them share a gift. This year, however, I found non plastic tools that they can use in the garden with me.
We are very conscious about our gifts to our kids. This has had some push back from some, but we also try not to buy any plastic toys. We have some as many have been gifts from others, but are phasing them out. With downsizing, we have really been trying to only keep things that make us happy. Marie Kondo’s “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” only reenforced this goal! So here are 5 eco friendly Easter gift idea
Wooden Garden Tools
This is something I have been looking for for the girls then found them this year! They love helping me in the garden & pretending to work in their gardens, so I was so excited when I found these at Aldi.
Seeds
With Earth Day & Easter being the same weekend this year, what better way than to wrap them together? Planting seeds & watching them grow gets my children excited. One year we bought little pots & planted seeds on Earth Day, then gifted those plants to the grandmas for Mother’s Day! It was fun and educational for the kids while also providing a gift for others.
Experiences!
I know some people don’t find these fun to buy, but they bring the most memories. Science museums, animal sanctuaries (I find zoos controversial because the enclosures are so small compared to an animal’s natural habitat), movie theatre gift cards if a movie your kiddo wants to see is coming out, a ski or sled trip in a cold part of the country, or bowling! I was surprised how much fun the girls had bowling. They just loved pushing the ball down the lane.
DIY gifts
Our middle daughter loves to help cook. Reusing a glass pasta jar & putting a homemade brownie or bread mix would be something she would love to do. Something my oldest would love is a water color from me. I know this sounds vain, but, full disclosure, I’m no artist. The other day, I had a pile of watercolors I was going to put in the recycling bin. When my oldest saw them she told me how pretty they were and how she wanted them to look at. It gave me the idea to make their cards this year.
Kitchen Gadgets
Last Easter we got the girls a bamboo cutting board & a crinkle cutter to help in the kitchen. We tend to use smaller or softer vegetables for this because it can be hard for their little hands to cut. But they love the shapes that come out from them too!
Additional Ideas
I bought a wobble board over a year ago on Etsy. For some reason it still hasn’t come to me and USPS has no guidance. Kids find so many uses for these & I will be excited when it finally makes it’s way here. Another thing our kids love to play with is their wooden rainbow. I know Grimm’s toys makes some large ones, but this is a small one so it’s easy to put away.
