Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favor compared with the products of nature, the living cell of the plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life.
Der Rauhe Kulm is a unique and strange mountain. It is an old volcano that sits at 682 meters above sea level and it has never erupted. This hike was a nice day trip from our house and it was short enough Stella could walk it. The mile long path up is a combination of gravel, dirt, and, towards the top, becomes rocky.
In 1949 it became a protected monument. Then, in 2013, the Heinz Sielman Foundation named it “the most beautiful natural wonder in Germany”. When you get to the top, there is a 25 m high watch tower you can climb and the view really is magnificent.
Stella and Nora enjoyed the hike because of the flowers and creatures we observed. Nora loves rocks and Stella loves leaves, so Justin and I were walking around with our hands and pockets full. It was a nice change of scenery and way to welcome in 30 weeks of pregnancy!
GPS location is: Rauher Kulm, 95514 Neustadt am Kulm.
Been on a good hike recently? I’d love to hear about it! Here’s the link to some other awesome day hikes we have had around Bavaria!
