We’re to that time of year when you hear all about things to be grateful for. But why aren’t we practicing this sort of gratitude year round? Practicing gratitude is great for our mental, physical, and spiritual well being. I’m a big believer in the energy we put out into the world is the energy we are open to receiving. Take it from a fellow spreader of positive energy – it can be hard. I know. But If you’re looking for the negatives and what is wrong all the time, you’re going to find it! So why not take that power and do the opposite? Look for the positives to bring in that positive energy and notice those little things you may take for granted!
Practice Gratitude Everyday
Meditate
There are some great podcasts and youtube videos out there ranging from 5min to an hour that guide you through a meditation practice. But meditation isn’t limited to these practices. If you feel compelled to pray, go for it. You may want to move your body and breath, that counts too! Whatever you find the most helpful is where you may need to be in your meditation practice. Don’t compare yourself to others.
Appreciate
I was listening to Marie Forleo and she said something that really resonated within me:
What we appreciate, appreciates.
This may sound wonky, but it goes hand in hand with what I mentioned above. When we appreciate a trait about someone, this can help raise their spirits. You may not even know someone needs a raise but when you tell them something they’re good it, it could make their day. They can gain confidence and you could potentially start a positive snowball effect!
Journal
I have finally started my gratitude journal. It’s not something I’m doing every day, but weekly, at this point. Like any new practice, you may need to start slowly to learn to really appreciate and incorporate it into your day. So begin by writing 3 things you’re thankful for and why. The next time, write 3 people or things you appreciate and why. When you’re having bad day, maybe reminding yourself of these things is just what you need.
Spread the Love
Maybe this can be around your Thanksgiving table. Everyone could talk about what they appreciate about the person next to them. Or saying ‘thank you’ when someone does something for you, no matter how big or small. Instead of putting out bad energy and being negative about something, look at it as a learning point. Being grateful that you have the power to change your thoughts about it is a thing to think about too!
Another thing I find really power and that raises my vibrations is being able to help others. Whether it’s volunteering in my community, helping someone in need, or switching a shift with a co worker, makes me grateful I am able to help serve others!
My Gratitude List
Today I’m grateful for many things:
- My and my family’s health
- My knowledge. I love education and learning new things
- Having an open mind. Being able to see other’s perspective and being open to it even if I don’t agree with them really helps me critically think.
- My memories. I love reflecting back on places we lived, visited, and the experiences with people we’ve met.
- Being able to buy healthy, plant based foods
- Serving others via face to face, on my blog, or in posts on social media
- Pursing a certification I’m excited about. I love learning about holistic nursing and nurse coaching!
I’d love to hear from you. Comment below with one thing you’re grateful for!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the US!
