I have been seeing stuff online about “whipped sugar soap scrub” and had to try it! This is not like my homemade sugar scrub because this is whipped and has soap in it, but it is fun for the kids. You only need 3 simple ingredients too. We have been avoiding toxins in our body care products for awhile and tend to opt for natural products. In this recipe, I grabbed natural ingredients that I had laying around the house!
This whipped sugar soap scrub would be a thoughtful homemade gift to give your friends or family. This would be a great choice to pair with bath bombs and/or a body butter.
what is whipped sugar scrub soap?
Whipped sugar scrub soap is similar to a homemade body scrub made of sugar and oil, only you whip the oil. This means you will need to use an oil that is solid at room temperature, such as coconut oil. Then, you add your sugar and, if desired, add your liquid soap. It’s a light and fluffy version of a traditional sugar scrub!
The texture almost reminds me of kinetic sand. This is a popular kid sand that is solid when you squeeze it, but sticks together slightly so you can build with it.
can you use an oil other than coconut oil?
I have not personal tried it, but you may be able to swap coconut oil for finely chopped cocoa butter or shea butter. Both of these are full of essential fatty acids to help nourish your skin. Unfortunately, liquid carrier oils like sweet almond oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, and avocado oil would not work in this recipe (although those tend to be the types of oils I prefer to use). To make your whipped based, you need a solid oil that will hold together when you whip it. Adding a tablespoon or two to your whipped base would be the best way to incorporate these into your homemade whipped scrub.
types of sugar to use in this whipped sugar scrub soap recipe
Any type of fine sugar would work. If you use a coarser type of sugar, it could lead to more damage on your skin barrier than you want. A fine sugar will be a gentle exfoliant to scrub away dead skin cells, without compromising your skin barrier.
Types of sugar you could use would be fine versions of organic cane sugar, brown sugar, white sugar, or even a sucanat or maple sugar!
can I skip the soap in this recipe?
Absolutely! If you only want a whipped sugar scrub, this will work out also. In fact, when I first made this recipe I excluded the soap.
storage ideas
For best results, place in a cute glass jar, a leftover plastic jar that has been well, or jelly mason jars. Make sure that you do not get water into your sugar scrub soap mixture. This will increase the chance of mold or bacteria and since no preservatives are added.
If your sugar scrub looks or smells off, throw it away. Ideally, it will the shelf life is 2+ months but ingredients freshness and how you store it will impact this. Believe it or not, coconut oil does expire.
Also, storing in an even temperature, dry place is the best option. I will admit, I rarely do this because if I do not have it in the bathroom with me, I will forget bout it!

how to use this scrub
You can use this pretty much all over your body. I personally would not use this on my face since it is a 50/50 mixture of oil and sugar.
To use this, grab a small amount and get it wet with warm water. Then, gentle apply it to wet skin in a circular motion. This is a great way to exfoliate dead skin on rough parts of your body, like the heels of your feet and elbows.
