I’m a bath person. I love to take my book and a clay mask into the bathtub where I can read while I deep condition my hair. But, sometimes that’s not option but I still enjoy using aromatherapy. Shower melts are a great way to still get that in!

Shower melts aren’t the same as bath bombs. Bath bombs are fun to watch fuzz and you can opt to make shower melts that way too. But bath bombs are also good for moisturizing your skin while enjoying the benefits of essential oils too. Shower melts on the other hand are just used for their aromatherapy benefits since the shower water doesn’t exactly allow any soaking to happen.

How to use shower steamers

It’s pretty straight forward on how to use these guys. You just drop them in your shower (preferably out of the stream of water so they last longer) and hop in. Then you get to breathe in the beautiful aromas you chose.

I find shower steamers to be the best for when I need a boost of energy or have congestion. If you’re one to take a shower closer to bedtime, then you could tailor your essential oils to be more relaxing.

Essential Oils for DIY Shower Melts

The great thing about essential oils is they can be used depending on your likes or needs. Some essential oil combo suggestions are:

  • 10 drops orange
  • 4 drops lime

DIY Shower Melts Recipe

Active Time: 5 minutes
Dry Time: 8 hours
Total Time: 5 minutes

Homemade shower melts can be great for a relaxing shower or one to open up your sinuses. This DIY shower melt recipe is only 3 ingredients and simple to make.

Materials

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup epsom salt
  • 30-40 drops essential oils*
  • 3 tsp water

Tools

  • silicone molds

Instructions

  1. Add epsom salt and baking soda into a bowl. Mix together while slowly adding water, 1 tsp at a time.
  2. Add your choice of essential oils and mix.
  3. Press firmly into molds.
  4. Allow to sit for 8-12 hours so shower melts hold together.
  5. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

My kids love to mix this together with their hands! Once you add essential oils though, use a wooden spoon so the oils don't get on your hands undiluted.

You can use different variations of essential oils depending on your needs. See in the sections above the How To for essential oil combinations.

Make sure you use a mold that allows you to press out the shower melts without breaking them!
