Have a hard time getting greens into your diet? Here’s a nutrient packed smoothie to start your day or have as a snack that you won’t even realize has greens in it. Picky toddlers approve of this too!
Spinach is one of the most nutrient dense greens. About 1/3 of it’s calories are from protein! Doesn’t it make sense now why Pop Eye ate it to grow strong? But what about some of these lesser known ingredients I used?
- Ground flax seeds is full of omega-3 fatty acids, which helps lower inflammation in the body. These also help to protect you from heart disease, type II diabetes, & cancer. They contain valuable fiber, lignans, and other phytonutrients. Make sure they’re ground or chewed up well, if they’re whole seeds, they’ll just pass through your digestive tract without all the benefits.
- Chia seeds are also nutrient dense. They promote healthy skin, reduce signs of aging, and support heart and digestive health. Fun fact: the Aztecs and Mayans prizes chia seeds because they provided sustainable energy.
