Looking for to make diy bath bombs with natural ingredients? Then you’re in the right place! These bath bombs are similar to the other bath bomb recipe on my blog, but without the corn starch.
These homemade bath bombs make a great gift or to use as your own bath bombs during a relaxing, warm bath. My kiddos love them too because the citric acid creates a fizzy reaction when added to your hot water. It’s also a fun project to include them in on.

why use create your own natural bath bombs?
The fun thing about creating your own bath bombs is that you can customize the essential oils you put in them for their health benefits. This simple bath bomb recipe does not use artificial ingredients like some store-bought versions. Some ideas for using your bath bombs are:
- Sore Muscles – Wintergreen, peppermint, and lavender essential oils
- Relaxing – Chamomile, vetiver, and lavender essential oils
- Congestion – Eucalyptus and peppermint
- Citrus – Bergamont, orange, and lemon
- Lavender – dried lavender and lavender essential oil
Bath Bomb Ingredients
Baking Soda
Baking soda is the backbone of any bath bomb recipe. It not only gives the bath bomb its structure but also reacts with citric acid to create that iconic bath bomb fizz we all love. Plus, it’s gentle on the skin, making it a great base for a soothing soak.
Citric Acid
This is the magic ingredient that makes bath bombs fizz! When citric acid meets water, it reacts with the baking soda to create bubbles and release your favorite essential oils into the bath, transforming your soak into a spa-like experience.
Arrowroot Powder
Arrowroot powder is a great alternative to cornstarch, helping to soften and smooth your skin. It also helps bind the dry ingredients together without interfering with the fizzing reaction.
Carrier Oils (like coconut, jojoba, or almond oil)
Carrier oils add nourishment to your skin and ensure that your bath bomb doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. Choose your favorite oil to create a gentle, hydrating layer in the bathwater.
Essential Oils
The fragrance of your bath bomb is all about personal preference. While some recipes use fragrance oils, I love sticking to my favorite essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus blends for a natural, aromatic touch. These not only smell amazing but can also provide therapeutic benefits, depending on the oils you choose.
Water or Herbal Tea
Water is essential to activate the fizzing reaction, but you can also use herbal tea (like chamomile or peppermint) to add additional skin benefits and soothing properties.
Food Coloring (optional)
Some people like to use mica powder to color their bath bombs. Make sure to check which ones you use in your DIY bath bomb recipe, as some can stain your bathtub after soaking.

Helpful tools to have to make bath bombs without cornstarch
- large and small bowl
- bath bomb molds – you can buy silicone molds or a stainless steel mold
- wooden spoon or whisk
- an airtight container – a dry place to store your bath bombs in after you make them.
- melted coconut oil – this isn’t to be added to the main ingredients of a bath bomb, but it’s a helpful tip for making them! You can lightly coat your mold with a small amount of oil or cornstarch before adding your bath bomb mixture. This prevents the mixture from sticking to the mold, making it easier to release your perfectly shaped bath bombs.
